05.23.11 - Tom Sayeg to be Panelist for Right at Home's Older and Wiser Program
Given the American preoccupation with, and considerable investment in, staying young and fit, it's surprising how little we consider or prepare for our senior years. To begin to address our collective denial about aging, in-home care agency Right At Home Central Oregon is hosting Wiser and Older: Education and Empowerment Series for Adult Children and Seniors, a program created by Ali Davidson to help adult children, boomers and seniors consider and develop a plan of action for their parents' (and their own) elder years.
The fourth (and final) workshop in the series is Now What? An Expert Panel Presents Legal, Financial and Caregiving Scenarios and Solutions, which will be held on Monday, May 23rd, 5:30-7 p.m.at St. Charles Medical Center, Bend. Now What? explores the roadblocks of aging, when things begin to change and at which milestones decisions have to be made. Maintaining control is imperative for a senior as they negotiate the rest of their lives requiring assistance from others. The expert panel will feature Tom Sayeg of Karnopp Petersen LLP, David Rosell of Rosell Financial, Senior Champion Ali Davidson, Julie Burket of Right at Home, and Geriatric Nurse Deb Nielson. Participants will learn to be an advocate for their seniors without taking control and learn to create a plan that will empower all parties.
Now What? is being sponsored by Rosell Financial Group, Clear One Health Plans and Pilot Butte Rehabilitation.
Tickets are $29 in advance, or $39 at the door. For more information and to register, go to www.wiserandoldernow.com or call Right At Home Central Oregon at 541.633-7436. A portion of the proceeds from Wiser and Older will benefit NeighborImpact's Food Bank.

03.29.11 - KP to to Host "Handbook Headaches, Be Gone" Employment Law Seminar
Most all of you know that having an effective, up-to-date employee handbook is key to minimizing the risk of employee claims. There is a lot more to writing an effective handbook than simply restating that employment is "at-will"-in fact, poorly-designed policies can sometimes create more trouble than having no policy at all! But with all the pressures on business these days, it can be hard to devote the time and attention to keeping your policies complete and in legal compliance. Dust off that handbook and join us on March 29th for an engaging look at what to consider, what to embrace, and what to all together avoid in your handbook. Don't let delays or inaction give you a real headache (or liability) down the road!
