Professional Experience

Bill Buchanan was born and raised in Central and Eastern Oregon where he divided time between a wheat farm and cattle ranch near the John Day River. During his college years at Oregon State University he served as an intern for United States Senator Mark O. Hatfield and as a legislative clerk to a Washington D.C. law firm.

These experiences galvanized Bill's interest in the law. After completing law school at the National Law Center, Bill returned to Oregon in 1993 and practiced for several years with a large firm in Portland before returning to Bend and joining Karnopp Petersen. A litigator by trade, he assists clients in resolving their civil disputes both in the courtroom and at the bargaining table. Bill focuses his practice on business and property related litigation, public infrastructure law, and takings and condemnation law. He represents individuals and businesses in venues throughout Oregon, including state and federal courts, administrative forums, mediations, arbitrations and negotiations.
